Dean Elgar and Hashim Amla hit half-centuries as South Africa beat Pakistan by six wickets inside three days in the first Test on Friday.

Amla was on 63 when Temba Bavuma swept Yasir Shah for four to take South Africa past their target of 149 shortly before tea on the third day.

However, South Africa skipper Faf Du Plessis and Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed became part of Test cricket history thanks to an unwanted record.

South Africa fast bowler, Duanne Olivier, was named man-of-the-match for his return of 11 wickets from both innings for the cost of 96 runs.

Short Score:

Pakistan 1st Innings: 181

South Africa 1st innings: 223

Result: South Africa won by 6 wickets
