Simona Halep of Romania win rogers cup

MONTREAL – Simona Halep of Romania defeated error-prone American Madison Keys 7-6 (2), 6-3 to win the US$4.7 million women’s Rogers Cup on Sunday.

Halep, seeded fifth, rebounded from losing to Belinda Bencic in the final a year ago. It was the Romanian’s third tournament win this year and the 14th of her career. She won $497,700 while Keys took home $241,840.

With the victory, Halep will jump to third in WTA rankings. She has won 10 consecutive matches including a victory at her home tournament two weeks ago in Bucharest.
