A Chinese tycoon has agreed to buy historic English football club Aston Villa, the latest in a series of Chinese investment in football worldwide as President Xi Jinping is seeking to make the country a world power in the sport.

The transaction would have a value of 60 million pounds ($ 88 million), will see the president of the little-known group Recon, Xia Jiantong, became the first mainland Chinese to fully possess an English team.

Villa case, however, with 100 percent ownership, is not only an investment.

“China’s property now decide how to manage the club,” said Mark Dreyer, founder of the sports information website China Sports Insider based in Beijing.
